Nationwide Names Matlock Minority Marketer

ATLANTA Matlock Advertising and Public Relations has been tapped by Nationwide Insurance Co. to handle its African American advertising, sources said.

The Atlanta shop was selected following a review that included shops such as Images USA, also in Atlanta, and Vigilante in New York. Publicis Group’s Burrell Communications in Chicago previously held the account.

Columbus, Ohio-based Nationwide Insurance operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia as well as in Asia, Latin America and Europe, sources said. Its current diversity programs include scholarship programs in which minority students complete internships at the company’s headquarters.

According to Nationwide, its focus in the future will be to broaden its markets as well as its product base. Annual billings were undisclosed.
