Music To Their Ears

Consumer electronics maker Kenwood USA is talking to four small-to-midsized agencies in Southern California about handling its estimated $2 million account.
Marketing And in Culver City, Hajjar and Partners in Marina del Rey, Band of Gypsies in Pacific Palisades and Sagon-Phior Group in Sherman Oaks are the contenders, according to consultant Mark Sherman in Marina del Rey, who is overseeing the review.
Incumbent Citron Haligman Bedecarrƒ in San Francisco is not defending the business.
The client held chemistry meetings with the shops last week, and presentations are scheduled for later this month. Kenwood executives were in Japan last week hammering out budgets and media plans and could not be reached for comment.
Citron has been handling creative and media responsibilities for Kenwood’s consumer advertising for four years. It expects to continue as the client’s consumer ad shop, said agency officials. Sherman, though, said the winning agency may get the entire ad account. The review is for “the whole ball of wax,” he said.
