Mullen Wins Rational Software

BOSTON-Mullen has been awarded the creative portion of Rational Software’s $15-20 million advertising account, sources said. The news comes just two weeks after the Wenham, Mass., agency landed a $20-25 million global advertising assignment from Lucent Technologies spinoff Agere Systems.

Agency chief executive Joe Grimaldi declined to comment, but Mullen is expected to announce the Rational win today. A spokesperson from Boston consulting firm Pile and Co., which led the review, also declined comment.

Work for the Cupertino, Calif., client, which provides Internet tools such as software used by programmers to ensure that applications work as planned, will include direct, interactive and print advertising.

Mullen takes over for Allen & Gerritsen, Watertown, Mass., which handled the account for a year. Carat Freeman, Newton, Mass., retains media chores. Other agencies involved in the review included CGN Marketing & Creative Services in Boston and Doremus in New York.

Mullen this week was also selected to handle public relations activities for eMation, a Mansfield, Mass., provider of Internet infrastructure products, which Grimaldi described as a ‘sizeable piece of business.’
