Mr. Clean Made Guest Appearances in 2 Super Bowl Spots This Year

Despite the fact that there's no ad for the brand itself

Mr. Clean had a big presence at this year’s Super Bowl—even though there wasn’t actually a Mr. Clean ad airing during the game.

First, Mr. Clean appeared as a guest at the funeral of Mr. Peanut, alongside the Kool-Aid Man and actors Matt Walsh and Wesley Snipes. What’s particularly notable about this Mr. Clean cameo is that the brand is not owned by Kraft Heinz, the company that owns Planters.


Mr. Clean is owned by Procter & Gamble, which is also the owner of the second ad that he appears in this Super Bowl. In P&G’s choose-your-own-adventure spot, which features characters and spokespeople from a number of P&G brands including Olay, Charmin, Bounty and Old Spice, Mr. Clean also makes an appearance at Sofia Vergara’s Super Bowl party. In the spot, a massive pot of chili spills, leading all the P&G spokespeople and mascots to clean up together.


Ahead of Super Bowl night, P&G invited viewers to choose what would happen in the ad through an interactive website, where users could select elements of the ad, such as background music or plot twists, to air before the final spot.

These ads do not mark Mr. Clean’s first appearance in the Big Game, though. In 2017, he made his Super Bowl debut, a sexy spot that ran with the tagline “You gotta love a man who cleans.” This year, Mr. Clean apparently didn’t need to have his own ad to get some Super Bowl love.
