MPG in Talks With Buying Exec

NEW YORK Havas’ MPG here is in final negotiations to hire David Barrington to run its buying operations, effectively replacing Bill McOwen, who left in the fall for a new post at Publicis Groupe’s Starcom in Los Angeles.

Barrington’s job, however, would be broader than McOwen’s, whose title was director of media investments at the time of his departure from MPG, sources said.

Barrington was previously head of sales for MyNetworkTV, the Fox Entertainment Group program service that was developed two years ago for its owned TV stations that had been affiliated with the UPN network. UPN, along with the WB, was merged into the CW network. Prior to that, Barrington was vp, advertising sales for TV syndication unit Twentieth Television.

MPG declined to comment on the hire, and Barrington could not be reached for comment. Sources said he would join the Havas shop later this month.
