Geoffrey Klapisch was appointed senior vice president, group media director of Hill, Holliday/New York, responsible for all media planning on Verizon Wireless in the Northeast corridor. He reports to David Wecal, president of Hill, Holliday/New York. Most recently, Kla pisch was vice president of media services at Upward Brown Media in Burlington, Mass. From 1999-2000, he was vice president of business planning and integration for Boston-based Fidel ity Investments eBusiness. Before that, he worked as senior vice president, director of strategic planning for Media Direct Partners in New York. Hill, Holliday, which is owned by The Interpublic Group of Cos., has offices in Boston, New York and San Francisco and claims billings of about $1 billion.

Merkley Newman Harty & Partners in New York promoted Jennifer Getsch mann to account director, working on the American Museum of Natural History, the Partnership for a Drug-Free Amer ica and portions of Citigroup. She formerly served as account manager.

Tom Morrissy was promoted to associate publisher, advertising of Entertainment Weekly magazine in New York. He formerly worked as the publication’s national sales manager. In addition, Fred Nelson was elevated to associate pub lisher, marketing and promotion. He was previously vice president of marketing and promotion.

Eric Mower and Associates promoted David Reininger to business development manager. Reininger, who is based in the agency’s Rochester office, was most recently senior production manager.

Jack Morton Worldwide in New York named Doug Balder senior design director of its Environments group. He arrives at the company after eight years as project director and designer at Ralph Appelbaum Associates.

Biography magazine expanded its advertising sales staff with three new hires. Deborah O’Brien was named Eastern advertising director, responsible for managing the New York sales staff and assisting in the development of new business, among other duties; she previously worked as New York manager at Food & Wine magazine. Sheryl Douglas was appointed an account executive, responsible for handling the liquor, financial, home-furnishing and pharmaceutical categories for the New England territory and for specific agencies in New York; she most recently was an account executive with Discover magazine. Anne Fretwell joined as West Coast manager, overseeing all West Coast business for the magazine; she formerly served as San Francisco manager at American Airlines Publishing. Biography magazine is owned by A&E Television Networks, a joint venture of The Hearst Corp., ABC and NBC.

Comedy Central named Joella West senior vice president, legal and business affairs. She is located in the New York-based network’s Los Angeles offices. Before joining Comedy Central, she served as senior vice president, business and legal affairs for Lions Gate Television.

American Urban Radio Networks hired two new executives. Anita Parker-Brown was named senior director of affiliate relations; she formerly was senior director of affiliate marketing for Jones Radio Network. Dawn Hill joined as director, marketing communications, a newly created position; she most recently worked as vice president of affiliate relations for Multimedia Entertainment’s The Talk Channel. Both executives are based in AURN’s New York office.


Hollyrock/Miller in Princeton hired Kyle Bednarski as an account executive. He graduated from Rutgers University in May.

Licensing and marketing-consulting firm Building Q promoted Gary Schneider to director of marketing. He joined the Voorhees-based company in 1998 as marketing manager.


MARC USA/Pittsburgh promoted four members of its media team. Elana Horn Kreisel was elevated to media account supervisor, planning media buys for True Value Hardware, Rite Aid Pharmacies and UPMC Health System; she previously was senior media planner/buyer. James Kennedy rose to media buyer, planning media buys for Rite Aid Pharmacies, Checkers Drive-In Restaurants and True Value Hardware; he arrived at the shop in 2000 as an assistant media buyer. Lynette Roberts was elevated to media buyer for Mellon Financial Corp., True Value Hardware and UPMC Health System; she joined MARC in 2000 as an assistant media buyer. Doug Grumet was named an assistant media buyer, responsible for buying media for Eat ‘n Park Restaurants and UPMC Health System; he arrived at the agency in 2000 as a media coordinator/assistant media buyer.

Paul Shapiro joined Dudnyk Advertising in Horsham as an account supervisor, working on the BASF business. He formerly worked at shops such as Ketchum and The Weightman Group.
