Karen Riordan has been upped to senior vice president and group account director of the direct marketing unit at Arnold Communications in Boston. She was praised for leading negotiations that have resulted in increased fees. Dave Briggs and Margrit Jacobson were promoted to assistant account executives. Briggs has been working on the shop’s flagship Volkswagen account, as well as Titleist and The Wall Street Journal’s online edition; Jacobson has worked mainly on Talbots. Eamon Havlin was upped to account supervisor in the brand promotions group; Michael Carey was hired in that capacity for the main agency. Havlin works mainly on the Massachusetts Department of Public Health business; Carey will also work on that account, along with chores for the Food and Drug Administration. Patrick Cramb has joined as an account coordinator, working on Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages and Allied Signal. Ann Honkonen was hired as a management supervisor for the brand promotions group; she works on toysmart.com.
The Weber Group in Cambridge has added Molly Gleason as an account executive, working on the Citrix and 3Com accounts. Karyn Ragonese joins the agency as an assistant account executive, working on Intranets.com and Lightbridge. ucci and John Mullane have joined Weber as account coordinators; the former works on Citrix, the latter on EarlybirdCapital.com and Ernst & Young.
Anne Desautels has joined Schwartz Communications in Waltham as senior vice president for the agency’s San Francisco office. She had previously helmed Manning, Selvage & Lee’s San Francisco-based global technology practice.
Gary Higgins has been named executive publisher of Needham, Mass.-based Community Newspaper Co.’s southern unit. He is responsible for operations and management of all CNC South Shore publications, based in Marshfield, as well as its Cape Cod holdings. Paul Craven has been named ad director of the company’s metro unit; he had been a sales manager. In his new job, he assumes responsibility for ads in CNC’s Tab newspaper group as well as the Cambridge Chronicle, Somerville Journal and Wellesley Townsman.
International Data Group, Boston, has appointed Bill Reinstein president and chief executive officer of ITWorld.com, a new IDG business unit designed to serve the online information needs of technology professionals in a variety of markets. The service will launch in the coming months.
John Mimande has been promoted to senior graphic designer and production director at WHY Design in Pawtucket. He will lead the design team and coordinate the estimating, scheduling and production of various client projects.
