Ira Matathia was named chief executive of Young & Rubicam’s Brand Futures Group, New York. Previously, the unit worked exclusively for agency clients; the group will now seek outside business as well. Matathia was most recently a consultant for Omnicom Group.
Cathy Aromando Donovan, executive group creative director at D’Arcy Masis Benton & Bowles, New York, won Working Mother’s 1998 “Mothering That Works” award, in recognition of her efforts on behalf of working parents in the advertising industry. She also received the magazine’s “Employee-Friendly Boss” award.
Ammirati Puris Lintas, New York, promoted Jeffrey Asch to senior vice president, creative director, direct marketing. He was previously vice president, associate creative director.
Lynn Allen joined Toolbox, New York, as an account executive. Before joining the shop, she was an account executive at McCann-Erickson.
The UniWorld Group, New York, appointed two new executives. Marvin Winkfield was named director of account management. He was previously senior vice president, account director at Arnold Communications. Louise Charles was hired as director of media services. She had been vice president, director of integrated marketing at McCann-Erickson.
Doug Arbesfeld joined MS&L Global Health, New York, the healthcare communications practice of Manning Selvage & Lee. He was most recently senior director, marketing communications at Rhone Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals.
Robert A. Becker Euro RSCG, New York, has promoted Colleen Doyle to the newly created position of president of Genecom, the agency’s medical education division. She advanced from senior vice president, director of operations at Genecom. Carolyn Fischer, previously executive vice president, managing director of Genecom, was named president of The Sales Engine, a new division.
HMC Advertising & Marketing, New York, has named Renell Sullivan vice president, management supervisor. Prior to joining the firm, she was a partner, account supervisor at Ogilvy & Mather, New York, where she supervised brands such as Merck’s Zocor and SmithKline Beecham’s Relafen.
Smith Advertising Group, Syracuse, has hired Frank Polera as a senior account executive working with its business-to-business clients. Prior to joining the firm, he was marketing communications manager for the Crouse-Hinds division of Cooper Industries.
Eric Mower and Associates, Syracuse, promoted two creative staffers: Jeannine Soden moved up to senior art director and Christy Dannible was named copywriter.
Chris Pinckney joined Mark Russell & Associates, Syracuse, as art director. He was most recently senior art director at Barry Blau & Partners in Wilton, Conn.
Sage Marketing Communications, Syracuse, appointed Charles Carrington public relations account executive. He previously served as marketing manager at William Andrew Publishing, an electrical publishing company in upstate New York.
Crawford Advertising, Syracuse, named Rob Furlong director of public relations. He has worked as a reporter, anchorperson, writer, producer and assignment editor in both local and national televison news.
Christine Boeke joined Kaufman Films, New York, as vice president, marketing. She will be responsible for securing corporate sponsorships and underwriters for films and documentaries. Boeke has worked as director of marketing at CBS and headed business development and market planning at Newsweek.
Jennifer Troiano joined Wolf Group, Rochester, as an assistant account executive. She was most recently with Saatchi & Saatchi Business Communications as traffic coordinator on the DuPont account. Kurt Pfeiffer was also named creative supervisor at Wolf. He has worked as an art director and creative supervisor at agencies Hutchins/ Young & Rubicam, Rumrill-Hoyt and Saatchi & Saatchi.
Mitchell DeTine & Neiler, Buffalo, added three staff members. Nicole Schmidt was named media buyer/ planner. She was most recently traffic coordinator at Eric Mower & Associates. Gretchen Galley was hired as a copywriter. She held the same post at Wolf Mansfield Bolling. Ahmad Jordan was appointed junior art director/production artist; he formerly worked as a graphic designer at Cyber Design.
James Foster, co-founder and chairman of Brouillard Communications, New York, departed at the end of 1998 to establish Reputation Management Strategies in Durango, Colo. During his career at Brouillard, he served clients such as Goodyear, Goldman Sachs & Co., Mellon Bank and the American Gas Association.
Tammy Spodek joined Harrison Leifer Miller & Speyer, Rockville Centre, as public relations account manager. She had supervised business-to-business and consumer accounts at Danny Frank Productions.
Marketing research and public opinion consultancy Roper Starch Worldwide, New York, tapped Michael Ephron as account director. He was most recently vice president, director of sales and marketing at Audits & Surveys Worldwide.
The New York Times Co. Broadcast Group promoted Thomas Bartunek to president and general manager of WQXR-FM, New York, from vice president, programming and operations. He joined the station in 1990 as program and operations director and was promoted to vice president in 1994.
USA Today, New York, promoted Lori Erdos to vice president, advertising sales from director, advertising sales and Jacki Brackensick to vice president, advertising sales from director, national circulation sales. Jack Dickman, vice president, advertising director, also added oversight of the retail category to his responsibilities.
Andrew Yeager was named Midwest sales manager of Sesame Street Parents, New York. He had been Midwest advertising manager of New Choices and Reader’s Digest Large Edition.
William Gibbons was appointed marketing director of Travel & Leisure, New York. He comes to the magazine from Bon Appƒtit, where he worked as merchandising and promotion director.
McCall’s, New York, promoted Constance von Collande to creative director from art director. She will oversee the magazine’s overall look while continuing to direct celebrity cover, at-home and beauty shoots.
The consumer imaging department of Eastman Kodak, Rochester, has hired David Hardie as general manager and vice president, marketing for the U.S. and Canada region.
Claudia Keenan was named marketing director of the New York City Opera. She had been director of marketing at Manhattan Theater Club since 1996.
Robert Schulman joined the Lunar Group, Whippany, as vice president, director of client services. He had worked at New York shops McCann-Erickson and Anderson & Lembke.
Sandra Chamberlin joined DKB and Partners, Morristown, as creative coordinator. Prior to arriving at the firm, she was an administrative assistant at OS&W, based in Whippany.
Two staffers joined Creative Marketing Alliance in Princeton Junction.
Diane Duenas comes to the shop as a marketing executive and Denise Roleson, who had worked as a creative intern in the summer of 1997, signs on as assistant art director.
Edward Newland Associates, Shrewsbury, promoted three staffers: Irene Church was raised to project manager from account coordinator, Lisa Gibson moved up to assistant account executive from account coordinator and Dalaiah Kusner advanced to account coordinator from traffic coordinator. Dr. Brendan Mulholland also joined the firm as medical consultant.

Copywriter Gail Mulligan joined the shop from Thomas Ferguson Associates; account executive Dennis Eagan arrived from Adient; and senior traffic coordinator Anna Linder came to the agency from Bradley Pharmaceuticals.
McAdams, Richman & Ong, Bala Cynwyd, has elevated Frank Keel to president and CEO from executive vice president, director of strategic development. The agency also made several hires: Dana Sachs was named traffic manager; James McMaster was appointed production manager; Anna Padula was tapped as public relations account executive; Chelsea Grant was named assistant account executive; Audrey Wright was appointed part-time receptionist and part-time media assistant; and Ginger Knickerson was named receptionist.
Carol Blair was named account coordinator at Dudnyk Public Relations, Horsham.
Schubert Communications, a business-to-business agency in Downingtown, hired Todd Fronauer as a designer and illustrator and promoted Rich Carango to creative director.

Felix Talamo was named senior vice president, chief financial officer at North Castle Partners, Stamford. He held a similar post at Media Inc.
KGA Advertising, Middletown, has tapped Jane Polowitzer as production manager and Sue Heath as stylist.
TradeDimensions, Wilton, added Jay Galluzzo as client service manager. He was manager of new business development at Wahlstrom & Co., Stamford.
