John Fawcett, worldwide creative director at Bates North America, has been given the additional duties of creative director for North America. Mike Robertson, creative director in New York, who has been responsible for handling the Hyundai account, has moved to the West Coast office to continue overseeing that account as vice chairman of Bates USA West. Both continue to report to North America CEO Bill Whitehead. Additionally, Chris Clark, director of new business, moves up to executive vice president, director of planning and strategic development.
At Saatchi & Saatchi, New York, senior copywriter Hy Abady has added the title of senior vice president. Abady reports to Beverly Okada, creative director and executive vice president.
Robert Solomon has founded Solomon Strategic, a marketing consulting firm based in New York. Solomon had been president of direct and interactive marketing at Ammirati Puris Lintas, also in New York.
Kendall Tarrant Worldwide, New York, named Janice Nieman president of its New York operations. She was most recently creative director at G.S.I., a consulting firm specializing in marketing and new products.
Marsteller Advertising, New York, named David Brown senior vice president, director of media services. He has held media planning positions at Merkley Newman Harty, BBDO, DDB Needham and Doremus, all in New York.
Toth Brand Imaging has added two staffers to its New York team. Simon Campbell joined the agency as creative support director, after serving as senior creative operations manager at Donna Karan. Alicia Shreders was hired as production manager; she had worked at such companies as Polo, Donna Karan and George Rice & Sons.
Toolbox Communications, New York, has added seven staffers. Deborah Chusid was named a senior art director and designer. She worked previously as a freelance designer with such companies as McGraw-Hill, Emmerling Post and Billboard. Casey McCann was hired as traffic manager. He graduated Hunter College this year. Brandon Muccino joined Toolbox as an account executive. Most recently, he was an account manager at Young & Rubicam. Anthony Peluso was named account director. He had been an account supervisor at Wickersham, Hunt, Schwantner. Alyssa Shelasky was named a copywriter. She was most recently at DDB in New York. Todd Spiewak joined
the firm as an art director and designer from Arnold Communications. Elizabeth Tonorezos was named account coordinator, after graduating from New York University.
Saphar & Associates in Rochester promoted Karen Ver Steeg to art director. She joined the agency in 1991 and most recently served as art director.
Michael Gower has been named national media director at McCann-Erickson’s Australian outpost. Most recently, he was chief executive officer of Itela Communications.
Cohn & Wolfe, New York, promoted two staffers. Christopher DeMarla advanced to vice president, group manager, sports marketing, and Phil Mann moved up to vice president and group manager, business-to-business marketing.
Hill and Knowlton, New York, named Michaelle Burstin managing director, media relations practice. She will be based in the agency’s Los Angeles office. Previously, she was vice president and managing director of media relations at The Financial Relations Board of BSMG Worldwide in Los Angeles.
Wechsler Ross & Partners in New York, a financial marketing and design firm, has named Alan Whitney vice president of business development. He had been director of marketing at Wright Investor’s Service.
Kaleidoscope Sports & Entertainment, New York, has named Jodi Falkenthal manager of advertising sales. Most recently, she was a senior sales planner for The Learning Channel and the Discovery Channel at Discovery Communications.
The Jackson Consulting Group, Bridgeport, named Michael Auth a senior associate. He most recently designed a direct-marketing program for Amerin Guaranty.
Timmons & Co. in Doylestown hired Stephanie Zylstra as photographer and graphic designer. She had worked as a freelance photographer at the Quakertown Free Press and New York Camera & Video.
Reese & Associates in Wyomissing named Bruce Becker production manager. He was most recently at Dourney Design Crew, where he served as art and photography director and purchasing manager.
Rodger Bailey has been named vice president, event marketing at SAI Marketing in Huntingdon Valley. He was previously managing director at 10.0, a sports-and-event marketing company that he co-founded.
Blattner Brunner in Pittsburgh promoted Mary Kay Modaffari to the position of vice president. She joined the firm in 1994 as an account executive and was most recently an account supervisor. Mary Kirk also joined the agency as an account executive from Marc Advertising.
Harte-Hanks DiMark in Langhorne named Rachel Gilbert regional sales director in its healthcare marketing division. Prior to joining the agency, she worked at United Healthcare of California and PacifiCare of California.
