CHICAGO-Leo Burnett USA president and chief marketing officer Mary Bishop is retiring from the agency March 1 after 23 years.

Bishop, 49, said she approached Bcom3 Group CEO Roger Haupt last fall about her desire to retire. In late September, agency COO Brad Brinegar was named CEO of Burnett North America, a post for which Bishop was a likely candidate. At the same time, Bob Brennan was brought in from Starcom MediaVest Group as president of Burnett Worldwide.

“Anyone who knows me knows, ‘If Mary left, it was her decision,'” she said.
