Centerline is an agency in it for the long haul. Founded in 1996 with the ethos that long-term partnerships foster better work for clients, the Raleigh, N.C., shop has built its business nurturing relationships with brands like IBM, General Electric, National Instruments and Lowe's Home Improvement. "We become experts [on a client's business] through long-term relationships," said John Lane, chief strategy officer and svp of creative. The 140-person shop also believes it thrives when it's working on a complex business. "If you have to sell, for example, a high-end computing system to a Tier II bank in China and access that marketplace because it's a growth market, that's a complex challenge and that's what we like," said Charles Long, founder and CEO. But the agency does have a softer side: helping employees relax with a full bar and massage chairs.
