LOS ANGELES Grey said it has hired Bob Merlotti as executive vice president, executive creative director of its Los Angeles office.

Merlotti, 42, joins Grey on March 10. He was previously senior partner, group creative director at J. Walter Thompson in Chicago and also spent 11 years at DDB Chicago.

Peter Mooney, who has served as co-president and chief creative officer at Grey here, now takes the title of executive vice president and creative director. While Mooney’s managerial responsibilities have been diminished and the co-president title has been eliminated, his creative duties have increased, said John Crosson, president of Grey in Los Angeles.
