NEW YORK — S-B Tools, the Chicago-based owner of Skil and Bosch power tools, has awarded its estimated $5 million media buying and planning assignment to WPP Group’s Mediaedge:cia, Chicago.

The agency beat out Bcom3’s StarLink, Chicago, as well as Publicis’ and Cordiant Communications’ Optimedia and Aegis’ Carat, both New York. Sean Tegart, product manager for S-B, cited Mediaedge:cia’s “extensive research offerings.” The client had previously done its media in-house, he said. I.D.8, Los Angeles, is the company’s creative agency.
