MDC Courts Freeman, Kirshenbaum Bond

ATLANTA Acquisition talks are underway between Canadian ad network MDC and two New York agencies, sources said.

The Toronto-based company is looking at adding Cliff Freeman and Partners and Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners to its agency network.

Chuck Porter, chairman of Crispin Porter + Bogusky, whose Miami shop is 49 percent owned by MDC, is serving as a consultant, the agency confirmed.

Porter has been looking for likely agencies to add to the MDC network since 2001.

Comparing the process to a courtship, a representative from KBP confirmed that discussions were taking place over dinners, but warned that an engagement had yet to be made.

Miles Nadal, chairman and chief executive at MDC, would not confirm the identity of either agency, but said the company was in discussion with many firms.

“We hope to make a purchase over the next six months, but not necessarily either of these shops,” Nadal said, referring to CFP and KPB. “We have tremendous liquidity. Our growth is 11 percent in revenue. We can afford to be patient.”
