CHICAGO McDonald’s Corp. has opted not to renew embattled professional basketball star Kobe Bryant’s endorsement deal.

“McDonald’s contract with Kobe Bryant expired on December 31, 2003,” according to a statement issued by the company. “Per the terms of our agreement, it would be inappropriate to comment or speculate at this time about any future sponsorship relationship.”

A company representative said McDonald’s and the basketball star arrived at the decision by “mutual agreement.”

Bryant is facing charges of sexual assault in Colorado.
