McCann, MRM Gould Share Rainmaker

SAN FRANCISCO In an effort to fully integrate the efforts of both agencies, McCann-Erickson and MRM Gould here have jointly hired a new director of business development.

Brian Powley, 42, will explore integrated business opportunities on behalf of both McCann S.F., a full-service advertising agency, and its sister shop, MRM Gould, a relationship marketing firm. It’s the first time McCann Worldgroup has had one person handling new business for two agencies.

In this new position, Powley will be responsible for offering a more integrated approach to clients and potential clients. He said he will employ a consulting approach to researching and exploring clients’ unmet business needs and offering marketing communications and advertising solutions. Powley, previously the executive vice president of H Corp., a San Francisco software supplier, has experience working for technology companies, as well as agency experience at Ogilvy & Mather and OgilvyOne Worldwide.

“There is a lot of talk about integrated advertising and offering a more integrated approach to clients, but not many agencies are actually delivering,” said Powley.

The move will help the related agencies act as one, said Michael Gould, president and chief executive officer of MRM Gould. “We already have expertise in both areas, but this is putting it together in a unique way.”

Gould said he and Courtney Buechert, executive vice president and general manager of McCann S.F., spent nine months searching for the right candidate for this new position.

Thanks to its longstanding relationship with Microsoft, the two agencies already have experience to support up this integrated arrangement. “As Brian is talking to additional companies, Mike and I have living, breathing examples of our ability to do this and the value it brings to clients,” said Buechert.
