McCann Enlists Group CD on Wendy’s

NEW YORK McCann Erickson said it has hired Benjamin Vendramin as senior vice president, group creative director on its Wendy’s business, a new position, effective immediately.

An art director by training, Vendramin is based at the Interpublic Group agency’s New York headquarters and will work closely with the shop’s chief creative officer, Joyce King Thomas, to whom he also reports.

Wendy’s spent $380 million in U.S. media last year, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

In a statement, King Thomas said, “Benjamin is the perfect person to help us create Wendy’s advertising that maintains the brand’s values, yet moves the brand forward.”

McCann has handled the account since winning it after a review in August 2002. IPG’s Universal McCann handles media duties for the Dublin, Ohio, client. Its current work is tagged, “Do what tastes right.”

Vendramin was most recently a principal at the Toronto agency he co-founded, Goodgoll Vendramin. He has also been a creative director at Omnicom Group’s TBWA\Chiat\Day in Toronto and has held positions at the Toronto offices of agencies including McCann, independent Taxi and now-defunct Bozell. Vendramin did a stint at WPP’s JWT in New York earlier in his career on Kodak. At Taxi, he worked on the Lever Ponds and Wonderbra accounts.

Over the years his client list has included Nissan, Moosehead Breweries, Nokia, Cadbury and American Airlines.
