McCann Bests BBH for BrownCo Account

NEW YORK Interpublic Group’s McCann Erickson has prevailed in a review for the ad account of online brokerage BrownCo, sources said.

The New York-based agency beat out Publicis Groupe-backed Bartle Bogle Hegarty, also in New York, for the estimated $10 million business.

IPG’s The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., and Grey in New York had also presented credentials to the client but did not take part in the competition’s final round, sources said.

Boston-based consultancy Pile and Co. conducted the search.

The client, also based in Boston, is a J.P. Morgan Chase company. It has used independent shop Via in Portland, Maine, for nearly two years, but that shop did not participate in this process.

Via launched a TV and print campaign for BrownCo in June 2003, touting a name change (from Brown & Co.) and introducing the theme, “You know what you want. We get it.” Documentary filmmaker Errol Morris directed the TV ads. The effort targeted experienced investors who know how to trade online.

The win is the second this week for McCann, which landed creative duties on Pfizer’s estimated $110 million Viagra account on Monday.

Neither agency nor client officials could immediately be reached.
