M&C Saatchi Expands Griffith's Role

NEW YORK Independent M&C Saatchi has centralized its two North American offices under one CEO.

Huw Griffith, chief executive at M&C Saatchi in Los Angeles since 2003, is now CEO of M&C Saatchi North America, which includes its New York operations.

“We’ve had a lot of great success on the West Coast,” he said. “Now we’re going to try to pull together and be one. Hopefully, it will give us greater clout in pitches.”

M&C Saatchi in recent months has made it into reviews for Volvo and Heineken USA, but was cut in early rounds. “We’ve still got a job to do. We’re not a household name here,” he said.

Griffith said he is in the process of searching for a new managing director of New York to replace Jenifer Willig, who resigned last month. Griffith will split his time between New York and L.A. until a new managing director is hired here.

“We’ve always wanted to build the offices as one,” Griffith said, adding that with the reorganization, both are now under the same P&L.

Griffith is a veteran of the London-based network, which has 15 offices worldwide. In 1995 he helped launch M&C Saatchi in Singapore, and in 2002 he played a role in launching the Malaysian office.

Clients of the L.A., agency, which has 40 staffers, include Ketel One, Crystal Cruises, Petco, San Diego Zoo, Tourism Australia and the Getty Museum. The New York shop has 20 staffers, and its clients are AIG, The Financial Times, Toto, Royal Bank of Scotland and Silver Jet. Its Pods business left last month.

Griffith, 43, reports to the partners of M&C Saatchi and to Tom Dery, executive chairman of Asia-Pacific and North American operations. Dery is based in Sydney, Australia.

Maurice and Charles Saatchi founded M&C Saatchi in 1995 after splitting with the network that bears their name, Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi, which opened in 1970.
