Marx McClellan Thrun took no chances when it prepared spots for a campaign for Badger Meter. The agency went to the original Creature From the Black Lagoon to illustrate the brand’s proficiency at keeping unwanted stuff out of the water.
Ben Chapman, the actor who played the creature, whose given name was “Gillman,” in the 1950s horror classic, is alive and well and living in Hawaii, where he’s a real estate executive. Unfortunately for the agency, Chapman wasn’t willing to let his image be used for an ad for
Badger Meter’s backflow prevention device.
