Sources close to the retail giant confirmed published reports that Sears has held discussions with former Procter & Gamble executive Richard Nicolosi about a top marketing post within the revamped Merchandise Group. If such an appointment is made, it could throw into question the whole review.
‘It’s a situation where you have to wait and see how all of this shakes out,’ said one agency source involved in the review.
Sears officials wouldn’t comment on speculation and said that they are not soliciting current senior vp/marketing Matt Howard’s job. Howard, according to sources, may take another position or opt to retire.
Nevertheless, Sears continues to move ahead with the review. The company will likely have five finalists by the end of the week, narrowed from a pool of roughly 10 agencies. New York-based Morgan, Anderson & Associates is handling the review.
