Fledgling U.S. Shop to Relaunch U.K. Telco
NEW YORK–General Electric Co. PLC, which is changing its name to Marconi Communications to distinguish it from General Electric in the U.S., has hired its first shop, fledgling agency Athorn Clark & Partners.
AC&P here won the estimated $50 million account after a review that included Ogilvy & Mather and WCRS, both in London, and three undisclosed others. TBWA/Chiat/Day here met with the client but declined to participate, sources said.
The British electronics company is hoping to reposition itself globally as a telecommunications company that will rival Nortel, Lucent Technologies and Cisco Systems, said sources.
