Mad Dogs Hires General Mgr.

Mad Dogs & Englishmen has hired Paul Levine, director of communications at Warwick Baker O’Neill, to fill the newly created post of general manager.
Starting today, Levine’s primary duty will be to get the $25-30 million New York creative boutique into more and larger account reviews.
“This is a pretty big move for us,” said Nick Cohen, Mad Dogs’ chairman and head creative. “We’re now 6 years old and we have never had a general manager before or anyone devoted to new business development. Paul is going to strengthen our name in the client community, and help us grow and develop both internally and externally.”
Cohen said that, traditionally, the shop has been more concerned with “being true to what we are” rather than rushing to expand.
Up until this point, Mad Dogs has pursued new business on a word-of-mouth basis and through referrals from Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York, Cohen said. Jonathan Bond and Richard Kirshenbaum, co-chairmen of Kirshenbaum, each hold a stake in Mad Dogs.
“This is a great opportunity,” said Levine, who had been in charge of new business and public relations for Warwick in New York, which claims about $180 million in billings. “My goal is to help position Mad Dogs for future growth while retaining the shop’s integrity, spirit and soul.”
An executive at Mad Dogs declined to comment on whether Levine will receive an equity stake in the agency.
During Levine’s three-year stint at Warwick, the shop won accounts such as Driver’s Mart Worldwide and the Tennis Industry Association.
