Lowe Lintas EVP to ‘Nurture’ Staff

Lowe Lintas & Partners has promoted Peter Hempel to evp, general manager, account management in the first of several moves designed to strengthen and codify the inner-workings of the shop.

Hempel, 44, an evp, managing director at the New York shop since 1993, continues to steer four accounts: Ralston Purina, Braun, Western Union and Courtyard by Marriott. His new charge is to drive efforts to recruit, retain and nurture talent.

“He really has both the heart and the brains [for the task],” said Rob Quish, New York president. “It just kind of grew out of our mutual desire to nurture the young people.”

The new post comes a year after Lowe & Partners merged with Am-mirati Puris Lintas, creating a global network with worldwide billings of $12 billion. The New York office’s account group now numbers 200—up from 75 at the former Lowe. That alone underscores the need to formalize employee-development practices.

“It’s the general need to improve how clients and agencies work to-gether to build brands,” Hempel said.

Hempel’s roots at Lowe go back to the former Scali, McCabe, Sloves. His 17-year career began as an assistant account executive on H.J. Heinz at the former Doyle Dane Bernbach.

Next up: the appointment of a general manager of operations, who will focus on coordinating the efforts of different disciplines, Quish said. That post also is expected to be filled from within.
