Lowe Lintas Cuts 40-50 Staffers

NEW YORK– Lowe Lintas & Partners in New York has laid off an estimated 40-50 staffers–roughly seven percent of its total workforce, sources said.

The cut, which occurred Tuesday, came after the shop laid off about 18 staffers in May and 37 toward the end of last year. The agency now employs about 680.

Sources indicated that the layoffs were the result of declines in client spending as well as a dearth of new business opportunities, and are, one source said, designed to ensure the profitability of the agency.

Shop executives, including New York president Rob Quish and U.S. CEO Paul Hammersley, could not immediately be reached.
