Lotito No. 2 at Western

LOS ANGELES – Mike Lotito says the past 17 years have been a training period that has prepared him to take the No. 2 post at Western Initiative Media Worldwide’s North American operations.
As media chief at sister Interpublic Group agency Ammirati Puris Lintas, New York, and at McCann-Erickson and D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles before that, Lotito gained firsthand experience leading a large media group.
“In joining Western, I truly feel I can put that experience to work,” he said.
His new boss, Western vice chairman and president Michael Kassan, last week took Lotito around the agency’s New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta offices. When he officially starts July 1, he will be based in New York.
As chief operating officer of North American operations, he will supervise day-to-day operations of the $5 billion media management firm’s North American strategic planning and buying groups. He will also sit on an international operations committee with Western’s senior executives in the U.S. and Europe.
“Mike’s background in terms of understanding media function from a lot of perspectives and marketing scenarios is important to us,” Kassan said.
Kassan said he vigorously recruited Lotito over the past two to three years. “This is the biggest news [at Western] since I joined,” he said.
For the past two years, Lotito, 38, served as APL’s general manager of technology. Previously, he was worldwide media director there. His appointment to a senior level post at Western had been expected for several weeks [Adweek, May 10.]
