NEW YORK SportsNet New York, the new cable network being created for the Mets and Jets, as well as Big Ten college football and Big East basketball, has hired Ogilvy & Mather to handle its advertising, SportsNet said.

Billings were not disclosed.

However, SportsNet will spend “millions” on the upcoming Ogilvy effort, said Steve Raab, vp of marketing and business development. “It’s significant,” he said.

Raab cited the agency’s “understanding [of] the fabric of New York and what makes New York sports fans tick” as a rationale for bringing Ogilvy aboard.
