Lifetime Leads Anti-Violence Activities

NEW YORK Lifetime Television next week teams up with advertisers, politicians, activists and celebrities to launch its second annual “Stop Violence Week,” the cable network said.

A series of events begins on March 3, when all members of Congress will have received ties and scarves designed by Liz Claiborne that advocate anti-violence. Lifetime will also broadcast special programming devoted to the issue, as well as taped messages from Congress about violence against women.

Singer Michael Bolton will join New York mayor Michael Bloomberg in Times Square on March 7 to salute men and women working to stop domestic violence.

Sponsors involved in the series of events next week include Maybelline, T-Mobile and Pedigree. Among the participating nonprofit organizations are the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the National Center for Victims of Crime, Safe Horizon, NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Ms. Foundation for Women.
