LAAAA Honors Pair

Citing their “en during contribution to the industry” and ability to “set new standards” in their market, the Los Angeles Advertising Agencies Association has named Gerry Rubin and Larry Postaer of Rubin Postaer and Associates the recipients of its Lifetime of Leadership award.

The LAAAA is bestowing the honor in place of its annual Leader of the Year award.

Rubin, 62, is president and CEO of RPA in Santa Monica, Calif. Postaer, 64, is evp and director of creative services.

“It’s flattering for two old guys from Chicago to now be recognized for a lifetime of achievement,” said Rubin. “It sounds almost like our career has come to an end, but that’s not how we’d prefer to look at it.”

Rubin aspired to be an actor before joining Leo Burnett, Chicago, in 1962 as a media trainee. He also worked for Needham, Harper & Steers in Chicago and L.A., becoming president of the L.A. office in 1981. He and Postaer formed RPA in 1986.

Postaer started out creating fliers for a department store, then became a copywriter for Sears in 1960. He first teamed with Rubin in 1976 at Needham Harper, working on Wrigley’s, Budweiser and McDonald’s.

“It’s been a long lifetime,” said Postaer, who, in addition to putting RPA’s next generation of leaders in place, hopes to write a “tell-all” book.

The two have grown RPA to a shop with billings of more than $850 million and more than 500 employees. They will be feted at a ceremony Feb. 20 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
