Kessler’s ‘Pedigree’ Fit at N.Y. Shop

David Kessler’s creative, brand and technology experience helped him land the managing director post at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in New York.

Kessler will lead the office with president and chief creative officer Dave Wecal. Kessler, 41, who began at Hill, Holliday on Sept. 10, was formerly evp, worldwide account director at Foote, Cone & Belding in New York, responsible for the AT&T consumer, business and wireless accounts.

Kessler began looking for a new post after FCB lost the $400 million wireless business in July.

In his new role, he will manage new-business pitches and the account service department, among other duties. He reports to CEO Jack Connors in Bos ton.

Wecal spent nine months searching for a managing director to replace Nils Peyron, who left in November.

“I wanted someone that had a ped igree of working at good agencies with major brands,” said Wecal. “[Kes sler] had a creative pedigree, big brand experience, and technology and telecom experience.”

FCB New York president Jeff Tarakajian said, “[Kessler] has a team-building, consensus-building approach to being a manager, as opposed to running off and doing things on his own.”

Kessler’s hire rounds out the office’s senior-man agement team. Wecal, who began in July 1999, within the last year hired account planning director Carol Cos tello, media director Geof frey Klapisch and design director Anto nia Ludes. Before FCB, Kessler was evp, worldwide managing director of technology and Web-based businesses at Lowe Lintas & Partners, working on the 3Com and RCN accounts.
