KBS+P Acquires PR Agency

In the latest in a series of moves and acquisitions by MDC Partners, the company’s Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal + Partners unit in New York has taken a majority stake in crosstown public relations firm Kwittken & Co.

The 22-person shop, a corporate communications and b-to-b specialist, retains its brand identity and becomes an operating unit of KBS+P. Kwittken & Co. was founded in 2005 by CEO Aaron Kwittken (pictured) and president Jason Schlossberg, who continue in their management roles as the firm joins KBS+P. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Per KBS+P, Kwittken & Co. is a good fit because it adds a new skill set — global reputation and issues management, crisis communications and trade and national media relations — to the services already offered by the firm’s Lime PR & Promotion division. Lime focuses on experiential and buzz marketing, contests, events and consumer PR.

The two teams have previously worked together on various assignments and will now team up for their first jointly won client: London-based WGSN, a fashion trend forecasting service.

From Kwittken’s point of view, the deal adds scale. By teaming with a multifaceted marketing firm, “We stand to gain an even stronger competitive advantage,” Kwittken said.

It’s been a year of considerable flux at MDC and its holdings. Among the key moves at KBS+P:

 • In July, the agency absorbed Hispanic ad shop Adrenalina.

 • That same month, there was a major change in creative leadership.

 • In April, Matt Weiss joined as chief of staff.

 • In March, the agency expanded into Atlanta.

 • Co-founder Jon Bond departed in February.
