JWT West Hires Strategic Chief




Thomis Brings Planning Skills From FCB
LOS ANGELES–JWT West has tapped Iwan Thomis as director of strategic planning, a new post.
The 32-year-old U.K. native also becomes a senior partner and will sit on the agency’s new executive committee. He will be based in San Francisco.
Thomis most recently served as svp, planning director at FCB Worldwide, San Francisco. In three years there, he led account planning and strategic thinking for Amazon.com; established the brand planning function for Dockers khakis that led to the “One leg at a time” ads for K1 khakis. He also was a strategic contributor to other campaigns, including Zima and the new Oakland Athletics work (see page 8).
“Iwan is one of the top strategic account planners on the West Coast,” said JWT West CEO Larry Tolpin, who is also on the executive committee, along with president Gordon Munroe and deputy creative director Greg Rowan. “He has the rare ability to uncover and distill unique consumer insights that serve as the platform for unexpected, entertaining advertising.”
Thomis said he has been given an “opportunity to elevate the planning discipline as an integral part of the creative product.”
Earlier in his career, Thomis was an account planner at Ammirati Puris Lintas, London. He began his career at BMP DDB Needham. K
