Kal Kan Veteran to Lead Shop’s L.A. Office
LOS ANGELES–De Verges “Dee” Jones has joined Empower MediaMarketing (formerly Media That Works) in the newly created post of senior vice president/general manager in Los Angeles.
Jones brings to the Cincinnati-based media and marketing company more than 20 years of experience on the client side of the business. Most recently, he was Pan-American marketing director for Kal Kan Foods, a division of Mars. He reports to Empower chairman Bill Price.
The company found Jones through Los Angeles executive recruitment firm Brown, Bernardy, Van Remmen.
“It’s always been my dream to hire someone with Dee’s experience, who can relate to the client’s needs and pressures and reconnect the media to the marketing,” said Tim Hahnke, the agency’s executive vice president/partner, who will work with Jones on new business efforts. “The hiring … underscores our commitment to further strengthen and expand our ability to be a strategic marketing resource.”
Hahnke said the agency specifically wanted someone with a domestic and global brand-building record on the client side to head the 18-person L.A. office.
During his seven years at Kal Kan, Jones was responsible for pet-care franchises in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and South America, guiding the growth of Pedigree brand dog food from the No. 3 position in the U.S to become the most prominent in the Pan-American region.
Previously, Jones held marketing posts at Clairol, Kraft General Foods and Pepsi-Cola.
