J.Crew Group is shaking up its C-suite in order to bolster long-term growth. Among the moves, the apparel retailer is elevating Derek Yarbrough, the CMO of sister brand Madewell, to CMO of the J.Crew brand as well.

Top line

It’s been just under a year since the retailer, among the early casualties of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Even so, casualwear brand Madewell was a bright spot for the company, generating more than $600 million in sales on an annual basis prior to the pandemic and notching same-store sales growth in the high single digits.

Between the lines

The naming of Yarbrough as CMO was coupled with several other announcements, including the appointment of Jose Davila to the role of CPO, Danielle Schmelkin to CIO and Liz Hershfield to svp of sustainability.
