Irma Mann Taps Kuby for PR

Jane Kuby has joined Irma S. Mann, Strategic Marketing as vice president and public relations director, a new position at the agency best known for its travel and hospitality advertising.

Kuby was attracted to the agency because, “They were looking to do what I’ve done previously—build a formal PR department.”

Her mission is to double the Boston shop’s public relations business in a year and ensure that PR accounts for 10 percent of the agency’s revenue, she said. For 1999, Irma S. Mann reported $6.7 million in total revenue, a 7.2-percent increase from the previous year.

In a 20-year career, Kuby has worked with agencies in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles in addition to recent high-level PR postings with Devine & Pearson, Quincy, Mass., and Mason & Madison, New Haven, Conn. For the latter, Kuby opened M&M’spublic relations office in Boston.

At Irma S. Mann,Kuby reports to chief executive Gary Leopold and initially oversees a six-person staff. Current public relations clients include The Islands of the Bahamas; the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority; travel assistance site; and, which provides services for the convention and meetings industry. Of the four, only is not also an advertising client. Kuby is looking to sell PR services to both new and current clients, she said.
