Illinois Tourism Cuts to 3 Finalists

CHICAGO Finalists for the $12 million Illinois tourism account, notified on Wednesday, are WPP Group shops J. Walter Thompson and Young & Rubicam, and Havas’s Euro RSCG Tatham Partners.

Briefings for the Chicago agencies were scheduled for Wednesday, according to the state’s request for proposal. Final presentations are expected in early December, according to state officials.

Cut from contention were semifinalists IPG’s Campbell Mithun and independents Grant Jacoby and Hoffman York, all Chicago. The incumbent, Omnicom’s BBDO in Chicago, is not defending.

Separately, incumbent Edelman will defend the public relations portion of the account. Contending for that business are the Chicago offices of Ketchum and Ruder-Finn. Presentations for the PR account are scheduled for mid-Novembner.

BBDO won the account in January 2000. Its work for the department has been tagged, “Right here. Right now.”
