Though this would be a nice time to hit a jackpot, the recession is taking its toll on Americans’ predilection for dropping (or risking) their cash at casinos. In an Ipsos Reid report issued last month, 42 percent of casino goers reported spending less in the past year on “casino-related activities,” vs. 8 percent spending more.

The findings also emphasize the degree to which visiting a casino “is seen as a social experience to be shared with others.”
