Doner Wins Account of Home & Garden TV

CHICAGO—Doner bested two finalists to win Home & Garden Television’s estimated $10-12 million ad account, sources said. The co-finalists were MARC USA, Chicago, and Fitzgerald & Co., Atlanta. Previously eliminated were Cramer-Krasselt, Chicago, and New York shops DeVito/Verdi, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners and Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos. Incumbent Lewis Communications, Birmingham, Ala., did not defend. HGTV’s vice president of marketing, Michael Boyd, did not return calls. Doner was closed for the holidays and executives could not be reached for comment.

Burns Set to Leave Fallon’s New York Office

NEW YORK—Alison Burns, president of Fallon here since 1998, will leave the shop to start a consultancy in New York, sources said. Burns has been out of the country on vacation and could not be reached. The agency declined comment. The New York office of Minneapolis-based Fallon, which at its peak in early 2000 claimed billings of $300 million and about 100 staffers, now claims billings of less than $100 million and 40 employees.

VML Gets State Farm Regional Media Work

CHICAGO—State Farm awarded media planning and buying for its Central Zone region to VML. The Kansas City, Mo., agency won the $1 million account after a review that included K.C. shops Kuhn & Wittenborn, NKH&W and Valentine Radford. Media had been handled by the Bloomington, Ill., insurer’s lead agency, DDB Chicago.

JWT Prevails in Review for McLeod USA

NEW YORK—J. Walter Thompson here has returned to the telecom category, landing ad duties for McLeod USA, a provider of local and long-distance phone service in the Midwest and West, the agency confirmed. Billings are estimated at $30-40 million. The shop landed the business after a review involving undisclosed agencies. JWT’s previous category experience includes Qwest and Sprint. McLeod of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has restructured since emerging from bankruptcy last April. Its last known shop was Peterson Milla Hooks, Minneapolis, which produced a print and outdoor effort in 1999.

McDonald’s San Antonio Co-op in Play

DALLAS—The San Antonio McDonald’s co-op has put its $2 million account into review, sources said. The group is reportedly seeking an agency that understands the nuances of the San Antonio market, where more than half the population is Hispanic. Contenders are incumbent Moroch, Dallas; Cartel Creativo and Creative Civilization, both San Antonio; and Davis-Elen Advertising, Los Angeles, sources said. San Antonio public relations firms KGB and Guerra DeBerry Coody are also participating, sources said. Presentations are set for late January.

FCB Picks Up Hampton Inn Properties

CHICAGO—The $5-10 million ad account of Hampton Inn and Hampton Inn & Suites has been awarded to Foote, Cone & Belding here following a review. Contenders included incumbent DDB Dallas and Martin/Williams, Minneapolis. Memphis, Tenn.-based Hampton is a unit of Hilton Hotel Corp.
