Fogarty Klein Monroe Protests Lottery Decision

DALLAS—The Texas Lottery Commission said it is reviewing a protest filed by Fogarty Klein Monroe, which handled the lottery’s general-market account for three years before the business officially shifted to DDB last month following a review. FKM of Houston contended against DDB in Dallas and Fellers in Austin, Texas, for the general-market portion of the estimated $35 million ad account. Minority-market incumbent The King Group in Dallas retained its account in a separate review.

LatinWorks Breaks New Version of Miller Spot

DALLAS—LatinWorks will bow a revised Spanish-language spot for Miller Lite that tested better with focus groups than the original, which broke last month. Both ads feature Columbian star Sofia Vergara, who drops cake on a man’s shirt. As she washes his shirt in the restaurant’s restroom, she and the bare-chested patron are caught by a cameraman, and the photo appears on the front page of a newspaper. Both spots include the man’s friends jabbing him about the misunderstanding, though the copy changes slightly. The first ad closes with a product shot of Miller Lite. The second one ends with Sofia bending down to clean up the man’s dirty shoes. The spot by the Austin, Texas, shop is part of the “Storytelling” campaign and breaks nationally on Hispanic networks Nov. 16.

Legacy Audits $50-75 Mil. Media-Buying Duties

WASHINGTON—The American Legacy Foundation said it is soliciting ideas from its media buyer, Havas’ Arnold MPG in New York, and undisclosed expert sources to make its $50-$75 million buying operation more efficient. Chris Cullen, Legacy’s executive vice president of marketing and communications, called the effort “an audit” due to impending funding changes. Legacy will receive the last of five $300 million payments from Big Tobacco’s Master Settlement Agreement in April.

Chrysler Inks Deal With Celine Dion, Sony Music

DETROIT—The Chrysler Group is partnering with Celine Dion and Sony Music Entertainment in a multi-year deal that launches early next year with a Chrysler brand television spot featuring the singer. An original song created specifically for the ad campaign is a key feature of the partnership. Other elements include personal appearances by Dion, special consumer promotions, dealer and recording tie-ins, interactive andowner communications, retail initiatives and TV pro-gramming. Financial details were undisclosed. The project is being developed by BBDO in Troy, Mich., and the Arnell Group of New York.
