Ogilvy Acquires Directing-Marketing Group

BOSTON—Ogilvy & Mather has acquired BEN Marketing Group, a $60 million direct-marketing and promotions agency with offices in Stamford, Conn., and Atlanta, from its parent company, EPB Communications. Financial terms were not disclosed. BEN will function as an independent unit of Ogilvy.

CP+B Releases First Ikea Campaign

ATLANTA—Crispin Porter + Bogusky’s first campaign for Ikea breaks this week. The Miami shop’s $40 million television, print, outdoor and point-of-purchase effort kicks off with a national broadcast and spot television commercial directed by Hollywood actor/director Spike Jonze. Three upcoming 30-second spots for the Swedish furniture manufacturer, scheduled to break in the fourth quarter, have been directed by The Royal Tenenbaums’ Wes Anderson. Catalog and in-store advertising that broke earlier this month is positioned around a “Think Cubic” theme.

Survey: More Dollars Needed to Target Hispanics

DALLAS—An Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies study reports that advertisers are not allocating adequate dollars to target Latino consumers in many core product categories. The research, conducted by The Santiago Solutions Group in San Francisco, found that advertisers of baby products, cosmetics and children’s remedies should allocate 10-25 percent of their marketing resources to the Hispanic market. A 7-13 percent allocation is suggested for the fast-food, apparel, automobile and entertainment sectors.

IAA, San Francisco Shops Sponsor Ad Expo

SAN FRANCISCO—The International Advertising Association, in cooperation with local agencies Foote, Cone & Belding, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and Publicis & Hal Riney, has organized the Best of San Francisco Show. The expo will be held this week in FCB’s offices on Battery Street. The exhibition is aimed at uniting a community hard hit by the economic downturn, according to the organizers.

Maxim Names Business, Technology Directors

ATLANTA—Maxim Direct has named Cathy Sexton director of business development. Sexton arrives at the Greensboro, N.C., shop with 20 years of database marketing experience. Most recently, she worked at Brann Worldwide/Response Marketing Group in Richmond, Va. Chris Stutzman takes over as Maxim’s director of technology services. Stutzman formerly consulted at Equifax and Accenture.
