Houston Rockets Name Creativity DirectorDALLAS—Jim Wegerbauer has been hired by the Houston Rockets as director of creativity and planning. In the newly created position, Wegerbauer, 37, will supervise creative development, print and broadcast productions, as well as media planning and placement for the National Basketball Association team. Previously, Wegerbauer was at Square One in Dallas, where he worked on the Miller Lite, Red Dog, Whataburger and Dallas Cowboys accounts, among others. Hayslip Design Chooses Gallier & WittenbergDALLAS—Hayslip Design has selected Gallier & Wittenberg to handle its advertising business. G&W here will provide advertising, national and local media planning, and public relations for the Dallas-based interior design company. Billings are undisclosed. Dial Soap Designates Hispanic AgencyCHICAGO—The San Jose Group here picked up Hispanic marketing duties for Dial's lines of soaps and detergents following a review. The Scottsdale, Ariz., marketer's $15-20 million general-market soap account was awarded to GSD&M in Austin, Texas, a year ago, while the Purex detergent line is at Cramer-Krasselt in Phoenix, Ariz. Billings for Hispanic marketing efforts have yet to be determined. Ikea Pulls Offensive Ad by CP+BATLANTA—Ikea yanked a Crispin Porter + Bogusky advertisement from West Coast dailies including the Los Angeles Times last week. The ad, which incorporated a photograph of a predatory woman prisoner about to assault another female inmate, generated complaints from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. In a letter to Ikea marketing manager Christian Mathieu, GLAAD's Scott Seomin labeled the ad, which promoted the store's no-sales tax anniversary promotion, "offensive." Copy reads, "What happens when you don't pay your taxes on April 15." On the right side of the piece, a happy mom sits with her child. Copy reads, "What happens when you don't pay your taxes on June 15." Survivor Vet Touts AGL's Gas GrillsATLANTA—CBS Survivor veteran Paschal English has signed an agreement with the Atlanta Gas Light Co. here. English, a Georgia native, will deliver summer-long promotions of natural gas grills in a broadcast and print campaign created by Creaxion in Atlanta. The agency, founded by former MCI marketing executive Mark Petit, is also handling "lifestyle" public relations as part of Porsche Cars of North America's launch of the Cayenne sports utility vehicle. FME Bows Work for RTM Restaurant GroupATLANTA—Fletcher Martin Ewing has launched two campaigns for RTM Restaurant Group. Broadcast and outdoor advertising for Mrs. Winner's Chicken and Biscuits and Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken franchises target teens and urban consumers. The new ads launch both brands into previously untargeted market sectors, according to the client.
