Ocean Spray Shops Creative Project

BOSTON—Ocean Spray Cranberries has begun talking to East Coast agencies about handling a creative project to launch a new beverage, sources said. Boston and New York agencies have been contacted, though no timetable for a review has been set, sources said. The budget is not known but is likely to be at least several million dollars initially, and the scope of the work may be expanded to include additional assignments, sources said. A client representative declined to speculate on “rumors,” but emphasized that Arnold, Boston, will continue as Ocean Spray’s lead agency. Client spending, nearly $40 million in 1998, has hovered around $15-20 million for the past several years, according to CMR.

Former Hill Execs Blocklin, Ayres Find Posts

BOSTON—June Blocklin, former co-president of Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos’ lead office in Boston, has returned to Young & Rubicam in the role of vice chairman, where she is expected to run the AT&T account. Blocklin left Interpublic Group’s Hill, Holliday last year to become president of partner services at Upromise, Brookline, Mass. Separately, Bozell of New York has hired Ruth Ayres, former chief marketing officer for Hill, Holliday, as managing partner and director of marketing. Cisco Systems Selects darkGrey

NEW YORK—DarkGrey last week added to its recent string of high-tech triumphs, winning the $50-60 million account of Cisco Systems following a review that included TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif., and JWT & Tonic in San Francisco. Incumbent Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in San Francisco declined to defend. The win was a bicoastal effort from the San Francisco and New York offices of darkGrey, a unit of Grey Global Group. The shop’s other high-tech clients include DoubleClick, Unisys, Oracle and BellSouth. Cisco is based in San Jose, Calif.

Wernau Joins Hill, Holliday

BOSTON—Peter Wernau has joined Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos as vp, business strategist, financial services, a new role in which he will identify business opportunities for the Interpublic Group agency’s financial clients. He reports to executive vp, group account director Leslee Lenoff, and will work on accounts such as FleetBoston Financial, the Boston agency’s largest client. Wernau had been with New York’s BusinessEdge Solutions.

Kennard Helps Lyrix Launch PeopleFind

BOSTON—Lyrix, a telecommunications software and services provider, is using a talking box, crafted by Kennard Design, to tout its PeopleFind product. PeopleFind is a speech-driven, internal-corporate-phone-directory system that eliminates the need for printed directories by giving employees telephone access to a variety of information. Boston-based Kennard created a high-tech direct-marketing campaign for the Tewksbury, Mass.-based client, which targets selected Fortune 1000 companies.
