Doner No Longer a Finalist for CareerBuilder

DETROIT—Doner has dropped out of the $15-20 million review, said an agency representative, who declined to explain why. Remaining finalists are Bernstein-Rein and Barkley Evergreen & Partners, both in Kansas City, Mo., and MARC USA and Cramer-Krasselt in Chicago. A decision is expected this week. Incumbent The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., declined to participate.

Ford Targets Minorities for Expedition

DETROIT—Ford is expanding its marketing efforts for the 2003 Expedition with multicultural work from Pancom International, UniWorld and Zubi that will run alongside existing ads from J. Walter Thompson here. Two 30-second spots and a two-page print ad from UniWorld, New York, target the African American audience and feature Laila Ali, daughter of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. Zubi, Coral Gables, Fla., which tailors ads to Hispanic buyers, developed a 30-second TV spot and print. Pancom, New York, an agency specializing in the Asian market, is creating a 30-second spot and two-page print piece for later this summer.

Y&R Fills Chief Broadcast Position

CHICAGO—Matt Bijarchi has joined Young & Rubicam here as director of broadcast production. Bijarchi replaces Karim Bartoletti, who left the Chicago agency to move to Milan, Italy, in March. Formerly a producer at Cliff Freeman and Partners, Bijarchi has been freelancing at Y&R since mid-April. He reports to Mark Figliulo, the agency’s chief creative officer.

Staples Set to Brief 4 Finalists

NEW YORK—Staples executives will update the four agencies competing for its $70 million account at its Framingham, Mass., headquarters this week, sources said. There will be a “work session” with the client in the weeks following and then a final pitch at the end of June or early July, one source said. The four shops are The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va.; Carmichael Lynch and Martin/Williams, both Minneapolis; and Wieden + Kennedy in New York. Select Resources International in West Hollywood, Calif., is the consultancy handling the review process. Staples split with Cliff Freeman and Partners in New York in April. Staples’ media account transferred from Pro Media, Natick, Mass., to Grey Global Group’s Media Com in New York in January.

C-K Taps Clausen to Head All Media

CHICAGO—Greg Clausen has returned to Cramer-Krasselt in the new position of evp, director of media. Clausen, most recently evp of media and business development at Creative Alliance in Louisville, Ky., will oversee media operations in Chicago-based C-K’s four offices. He was at the agency for six years prior to his 18-month stint at Creative Alliance.
