FCB Media Director Resigns

CHICAGO—Scot Butler, former TN Media president and worldwide media director for Foote, Cone & Belding, has resigned from FCB. Butler became media director of FCB’s Chicago office last August after TN Media was folded into Initiative Media North America. The agency is seeking a replacement, a representative said.

BBDO to Handle Allied Domecq-Miller Product

CHICAGO—BBDO will handle a Stolichnaya-branded alternative malt beverage jointly marketed by Allied Domecq and Miller Brewing. The two beverage companies are also teaming on a tequila beverage under the Sauza label, which will be handled by dRush in New York. Miller in Milwaukee and Allied Domecq in Westport, Conn., said they will spend $50 million on to develop and launch the brands. Earlier, Miller entered a pact with Skyy Spirits to introduce another flavored drink, Skyy Blue. Carlsbad, Calif., agency Lambesis handles that. Omnicom Group-owned BBDO, Chicago, said its work on the Stoli “malternative” falls under Allied’s brands and therefore does not pose a conflict with Miller rival Anheuser-Busch.

Saturn Lines Up Creative Presentations

DETROIT—The five agencies contending for the $35-50 million Saturn Ion account make creative presentations this week. Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Ore., will pitch on Tuesday. Wednesday presentations will be from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, in the morning, followed by D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, New York. Final presenters on Thursday will be incumbent Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, in the morning, followed by McCann-Erickson, New York.

Longtime DDB Account Executive Departs

CHICAGO—DDB Chicago veteran Bob Klein, a senior vice president and group account director, resigned from the shop earlier this month. Klein, 45, most recently handed the Tyson Foods, Sargento and Dairy Management Inc. accounts and served on DDB’s management council. His duties are being divided among several employees, an agency representative said.

Ex-Burnett Exec Joins Fallon in Asia

CHICAGO—Former Leo Burnett executive Charles Edwards has joined Fallon as a partner and managing director of the network’s Asian operations. Edwards, who was regional business-development director for Leo Burnett Asia Pacific, joins existing partners Calvin Soh, Yang Yeo and Chris Lee.

Hunters’ Protest Leads Jeep to Pull Spot

DETROIT—A Jeep spot reviewed in this week’s Critique (see page 26) was pulled after running only a few times on Jan. 6 because of complaints that it reflected negatively on hunting. Jennifer Rossbach, a representative for Chrysler agency PentaMark in Troy, Mich., acknowledged only on Friday that the spot had been pulled. Chrysler Group representative James Kenyon said the automaker made a joint decision with the agency to pull the spot, which he said Chrysler intended as “pro-Jeep,” not anti-hunting.
