8 Shops to Participate in J.D. Edwards Review

LOS ANGELES—All eight agencies invited to pitch software company J.D. Edwards’ $25-30 million account are expected to respond to the RFP, said a client representative. They include: incumbent Neobrands in Costa Mesa, Calif.; Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey, Calif.; DWP/Bates Technology in Atlanta; Doremus in New York and San Francisco; Leo Burnett in Chicago; Merkley Newman Harty & Partners in New York; and two undisclosed others. The Denver company is expected to narrow the list to three on Aug. 1. Presentations will be held in mid-August, with a decision at the end of the month.

RPA Loses Wenzel, Promotes Kirk

LOS ANGELES—After 22 years, Gary Wenzel is leaving Rubin Postaer and Associates in Santa Monica, Calif., for a post at TBWA\G1 in Tokyo, which handles Nissan. Wenzel, RPA’s director of client services, did not return calls. Tom Kirk has been promoted to evp, management account director at RPA, and adds management duties on Arco and am/pm to his other duties.

Lincoln Mercury Adds Marketing Execs

DETROIT—Ford Motor Co. has created new marketing positions for its Lincoln Mercury division and Premier Automotive Group, both in Irvine, Calif. Effective Aug. 1, Richard Beattie becomes vp of marketing, sales and service at Lincoln Mercury. He previously was Ford’s vp of investor relations and was president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations in Irvine from 1997 to 2000. Jim Rogers, previously Lincoln Mercury general marketing manager, was named marketing strategy manager of the Premier Automotive Group.

Baker to Promote Sears Health Centers

CHICAGO—Sears, Roebuck and Co. hired Baker Designed Communications to handle branding and marketing for Sears Health & Nutrition Centers. The centers will operate inside the Hoffman Estates, Ill., retailer’s existing stores. Baker in Santa Monica, Calif., will also develop packaging, promotions and a Web site.

Car Audio Chain Hands Media to RNF-CIA

LOS ANGELES—Al & Ed’s Auto Sound, a chain of 35 shops in Southern California, awarded its $3.3 million media buying and planning account to RNF-CIA Media in Los Angeles without a review. The L.A.-based client had handled media in-house. Creative remains in-house.

Pioneer Unveils New Tagline

LOS ANGELES—Pioneer Corp. has launched a new slogan, “sound.vision.soul.” The line will appear in an ad campaign for Pioneer North America, Long Beach, Calif., beginning this fall. It was developed by BBDO West in San Francisco. Pioneer is expected to almost double its global ad budget this year to $120 million.

Responsys Gains 4 Agency Partners

SAN FRANCISCO—Responsys, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based provider of customer data analysis and management systems, signed four new global agency partners: Brann Worldwide, Grey Direct, J. Walter Thompson’s digital@jwt and Tribal DDB.
