Gillette Moves Oral Care to BBDO

BOSTON—Gillette on Friday moved the creative portion of its $100 million global oral care business from Gotham to BBDO. The latter already serves as the Boston client’s lead agency. The switch between New York shops stemmed from an ongoing internal review by Gillette of all vendor relationships. Gillette spent nearly $180 million on domestic advertising in 2000; the client’s overall worldwide spending is $500-600 million.

6 Pitch Beth Israel Deaconess

BOSTON—Six semifinalists have emerged in the pitch for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s estimated $1-2 million advertising account. Cronin & Co., Glastonbury, Conn.; Mullen, Wenham, Mass.; Baldwin & Stone, Cambridge, Mass.; Allen & Gerritsen, Watertown, Mass.; and Boston agencies Clarke Goward and Holland Mark are in the hunt. BVK, Milwaukee, has handled ads for the local hospital consortium of which Beth Israel Deaconess is part. Pile and Co., Boston, is overseeing the process.

MMB Makes Play for Thomasville Furniture

BOSTON—McCarthy Mambro Bertino here has surfaced in the review for Thomasville Furniture’s $8 million ad account. The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va., and McKinney & Silver, Raleigh, N.C., are also pitching; undisclosed others may also be involved. Mullen/LHC, Winston-Salem, N.C., had handled Thomasville.

The Martin Agency Nabs Hanes Assignment

ATLANTA—The Martin Agency picked up the $15 million ad account of Sara Lee’s Hanes after a review that included Temerlin McClain and undisclosed others. Richmond, Va.-based Martin follows Mullen/LHC, Winston-Salem, N.C., on the account.

Mason & Madison Wins 3 Accounts

BOSTON—Three Connecticut-based technology companies—MTW, Respond and IMA—have named Mason & Madison’s public relations unit lead agency. Mason & Madison orchestrated the opening of MTW’s insurance systems group headquarters in Hartford. For Respond, the agency launched its U.S. operations and move into customer loyalty and retention. The shop will provide public relations counsel as well as monitoring key issues and developments.
