Wrigley Sets Orbit Launch With BBDO Ads

CHICAGO—Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. will begin shipping its new Orbit sugarless gum on July 2 backed by a $20 million campaign from BBDO Chicago tagged, “Just brushed clean feeling.” Orbit will be available in green “wintermint” and blue peppermint flavors.

Coleman, FCB Employees Shift to Y&R

DETROIT—With FCB set to close its Southfield, Mich., office, Coleman Co. moved its $2 million account to Young & Rubicam here. While preparing to shutter the office, FCB Detroit executives developed criteria for their remaining clients to refer to while interviewing potential replacement agencies. Several key FCB executives were hired by Y&R to continue servicing Coleman, including Ted Stacy, who headed the account at FCB and is now the account’s senior vice president-management supervisor at Y&R.

FCB Cuts Jobs at Chicago Office

CHICAGO—FCB here laid off 39 workers from its staff of 725, or approximately 5 percent. The layoffs were “straight across the board” a representative said, and were attributed to downturns in spending by existing clients and a lowered attrition rate as the job market tightens. Also behind the moves was the shop’s loss of all of the approximately 10 dot-com clients it picked up last year. The layoffs, which followed similar moves at other FCB offices around the country, were not related to the upcoming purchase of FCB parent True North Communications by the Interpublic Group of Companies, the agency said.

Burnett Backs Coke Promo With Aguilera

CHICAGO—Leo Burnett’s campaign for Coca-Cola’s “pop-top” summer promotion breaks today with spots featuring Christina Aguilera tagged, “Why not you, why not now?” Winners have a chance to attend the taping of the pop singer’s music video. The first spot depicts a fan fainting every time he meets Aguilera. Other spots show a teenager investing a $1 million prize on various luxury items and another who says the money will help her achieve her dreams of being an actress. Set to Hear Final Presentations

CHICAGO— will hear presentations for its $35 million global advertising account next week, with a decision shortly thereafter, sources said. Leo Burnett in Chicago and Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., are finalists for the account.

Keiler Bests C-K, One Other for Lockheed

NEW YORK—Keiler & Co. has landed the estimated $15 million media and creative account for Lockheed Martin following a review. The Farmington, Conn., shop bested Cramer-Krasselt in Milwaukee, and Gray, Kirk/Van Sant in Baltimore. The Bethesda, Md., defense contractor kicked off a review earlier this year. Incumbent DDB New York chose not to defend.
