Olympus Launches $15 Mil. Review

NEW YORK—Optical technology company Olympus has launched a review of advertising business handled by two agencies: Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York, and X.Com, Santa Ana, Calif., sources said. Combined billings are estimated at $15 million. Kirshenbaum, which handled work for the client’s consumer photo products, is not defending. It is unclear if X.Com, which handles digital imaging systems, will participate. Richard Roth Associates, a consultancy in Chappaqua, N.Y., is managing the review, according to sources. Neither Roth nor the Melville, N.Y., client could be reached for comment.

Initiative Media Launches IM Convergence

LOS ANGELES—A week after spinning off a new direct response unit, Initiative Media North America has launched IM Convergence, a wholly owned subsidiary based in New York to help clients work with major media conglomerates. “We’re offering one-stop shopping,” said Steve Greenberger who will serve as evp, director of IM Convergence. Greenberger, a former svp at Grey Global in New York who joined Initiative in November, said he will head a staff of five to 10 “media and marketing experts.” The move comes just days after Universal McCann announced its own convergence team. Both Initiative and McCann are owned by the Interpublic Group.

Juniper Networks Narrows Search

LOS ANGELES—Juniper Networks has cut the contender list to seven agencies in the review for its estimated $10-15 million account. Those remaining are San Francisco shops a.k.a. Euro RSCG, Arnold Ingalls Moranville, Grey Worldwide, Publicis Technology and Saatchi & Saatchi, as well as TBWA\Chiat\Day in San Franciso and Playa del Rey, Calif., and JWT Technology, San Jose, Calif. Juniper, Sunnyvale, Calif., manufactures Internet routing systems and other high-tech products. Search consultants Select Resources International, West Hollywood, Calif., is handling the review. The search is expected to narrow to three at the end of February. A winner will likely be chosen in mid-to-late March.

CHD Wins Hawaii’s Halekulani Hotels

ATLANTA—Halekulani Corp., owner of the Halekulani and Waikiki Parc hotels on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, named Cole Henderson Drake its lead agency. The Atlanta shop won the estimated $1 million account after a review that included undisclosed New England and West Coast shops.
