Temerlin Expands Park Place Business

DALLAS—Temerlin McClain has added relationship marketing and direct mail to its assignments with Park Place Entertainment. Irving, Texas-based Temerlin first introduced Paris Las Vegas on behalf of the client in 1999, then expanded its work to the company’s Bally’s and Flamingo Casinos. As part of the new business win, Temerlin has hired Missy Morgan as relationship marketing manager. Morgan joins the agency from Rapp Collins Worldwide, where she worked on marketing the PlayStation for Sony Computer Entertainment America. An agency representative said Park Place’s relationship marketing and direct mail efforts were formerly handled in-house.

Creative Juice! Attracts New Clients

DALLAS—Newly formed agency Creative Juice! ended the year 2000 with first-time clients including dattio, a regional technology consulting firm; Encore, a software consultant; NorthStar Surgical Center; First Bank & Trust Co.; PrimeWest Mortgage Corp.; Pedro’s Tamales; and a political campaign for U.S. Representative Larry Combest. The combined billings for the new business added up to approximately $1 million, said Jack Bush, president of the Lubbock, Texas, agency.

Pegasus Selects Bates for Design Work

DALLAS—The Bates Corporate Design Group has been selected by Pegasus International to produce corporate communications materials and a Web site for its engineering operations. The Houston-based design group is a unit of Bates Southwest. The client is also headquartered in Houston.

Mc2 to Create Spares’ Ads, Graphics

DALLAS—Spares has chosen mc2 Creative to produce its advertising, collateral and Web site. Projects will include a new logo and graphics identity system for the international distributor of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and parts in Austin, Texas. Billings were not disclosed. Mc2, a 9-year-old graphics and Web design company, is also located in Austin.

Layoffs Hit Leo Burnett Technology Arm

CHICAGO—Stung by cutbacks and failures among its emerging technology clients, the Leo Burnett Technology Group laid off about 25 of its 210 employees last week. Most of the cuts came in the company’s Boston and San Francisco offices. The unit, acquired by Burnett two years ago, claimed a 79 percent increase in revenue last year, when 83 people were hired. The fourth-quarter technology downturn hit the company hard. The division also has offices in Chicago and Austin, Texas.

Supreme Court to Review Tobacco Ad Laws

BOSTON—The U.S. Supreme Court last week said it will review strict new outdoor advertising rules in Massachusetts that aim to keep ads for tobacco products out of the view of children. Justices will hear appeals from Philip Morris Cos., R.J. Reynolds Tobacco and other big tobacco firms. The companies claim the regulations prohibit virtually all outdoor tobacco advertising in the Bay State.
