ATLANTA—Austin Kelley Advertising has been awarded the Hops Restaurant account. Hops, an Avado Brands company in Madison, Ga., is a casual-dining, microbrewery restaurant with 73 locations in 16 states, including five in metro Atlanta. Billings are undisclosed.

Smith Holds On to Sarasota Tourism

ATLANTA—The Sarasota (Fla.) Convention & Visitors Bureau has retained Smith Advertising & Associates after an all-Florida review. The Sarasota agency held its own against pitches from crosstown rival Clarke Advertising and FKQ Advertising in Clearwater. The business is valued at $1.6 million.

U.S. Navy Enlists AccentMarketing

ATLANTA—AccentMarketing has been selected to handle marketing targeting Hispanics for the U.S. Navy. The Miami shop will coordinate its efforts with Campbell-Ewald in Detroit, the Navy’s lead agency. AccentMarketing, among the top 15 Latino agencies in the U.S., was founded in 1986. Ten years later it became part of the Interpublic Group of Cos.

Ames Scullin O’Haire Recruits Ashley

ATLANTA—Mark Ashley has been hired as creative director at Ames Scullin O’Haire. Ashley’s last post was senior vice president and group creative director at Ogilvy & Mather here. In his new position, he will be partnered with executive creative director and managing partner Patrick Scullin at the Atlanta agency.

CHICAGO—Executives of Truth North Communications are “talking with Chrysler and Omnicom to reach a resolution” over employees contracted to FCB who are being asked to move to Omnicom’s PentaMark WorldWide following the consolidation of DaimlerChrysler’s $2 billion business, TNC said last week. Rumors were circulating that TNC was ready to contest PentaMark’s grab of Mike Vogel, who headed FCB’s Detroit office.

Luckie Keeps Alabama Power Media Buys

ATLANTA—Luckie & Co. will retain media buying duties for Alabama Power. The utility recently awarded creative duties on its $5 million marketing account to Long Haymes Carr in Winston-Salem, N.C. Sources familiar with The Southern Company, the utility’s parent organization, said marketing duties at another unit of the Atlanta-based conglomerate would be coming up for review. Like utilities around the nation, the Southern Company is gearing up to face the competitive challenges deregulation will bring. Luckie is based in Birmingham, Ala.
